Yes, gmail is an email account and is completely seperate from what ISP (Verizon) you currently have. That is one of the benefits of gmail, you can keep your email even if you change your ISP. You can also have your gmail account pull your verizon email in so you have it all in one place until everyone learns your new gmail account.
