Two Windows XP choices at bootup?

I had Windows XP and Mandriva on my laptop. I decided to reinstall Windows (format drive then reinstall) and I didn't remove the Mandriva first. I put in my Windows XP disk, got rid of all the partitions that were listed, then proceeded with the Windows XP installation. Now whenever I start the computer it gives me two choice but they're the same choices! Boot up Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Home Edition! The first one works but when I tried the second one it said the configuration was corrupted. All I want to do is get rid of the second option so I don't have to choose the operating system...can you help me?

If you have the windows xp disk, do the following:
1. Put Disc in drive

2. Startup PC

3. Let the PC run into the CD

4. Choose the Recovery Console

5. Type you admin username

6. Type your admin password

7. Type Fixmbr

8. Type exit

9. Eject Disc

10. reboot

Well I tried that but it wouldn't boot from the XP disk.
Anyway after a while I tried another XP disk and I used their disk...then I tried mine again and I got it to boot from the disk.
I was told not to use the Recovery Console so I just repaired XP the other way you can repair.
Anyway, I figured it out...but thanks for the reply!
