Can you please tell me where the Address Book is with all of my contacts on my computer to back up and save as well.
Can you please tell me where all of my Favorites are on my computer that you add in Internet Explorer manually when browsing the web to back up and save when you want to look at it again.
Can you please tell me where all of the History is on my computer that when browsing the web that you can go back into for the last several days to see what you've looked at.
When you have a regular folder open (e.g. c:\), click tools->folder options. Select the "View" tab, then change "hidden files and folders" to show, then uncheck the two checkboxes below the radio buttons (both ones starting with hide). This will make histry show up in local settings
IMAP folder is a folder in Outlook that is linked to an online storage of email. When you delete from the IMAP folder, it deletes from the imap server, this is as oppose to POP3 mail where it is deleted from the server as soon as your POP email client reads (downloads) it.
To back up your contacts (address book) in OE, click file->Export->Address book. Tell it where to save the file and have it save it. I am not positive, but i think gmail can import this file so your contacts are shown in GMail.
Favorites are in c:\documents and settings\[username]\Favorites. Note that it is users instead of documents and settings if you are on Vista.
History is in c:\documents and settings\[username]\Local Settings\History. Note that it is users instead of documents and settings if you are on Vista, and note that Local Settings may be a hidden directory that you have to type in the address bar to get to.
When I said that I wanted to backup my contacts in OE, I didn't mean on my computer. (I'm sorry for that info and confusion on my part as I didn't make myself all that clear). What I really meant was, that I have an online account that automatically backs up everything that I do for me automatically as I go along by way of Folders and what's in them. I'm just basicaly wanting to know where it stores those contacts in my address book so that I can let that online account do it for me when I tell it what part of the computer to back up by way of Folders and what's in them. Can you please tell me where that's located and how to get to it?
As for the History, after I go to the Local Settings Folder (which is hidden) I don't see a Folder that's called History, so can you please tell me another way to get to it?
I may be looking the wrong way for them, but the way that I'm looking for them is by way of My Computer, Local Disk (C:) by double clicking the Folders from there at that point. This is how I have to go in to the online account by finding the Folder that it's in so that it will know what part of the computer to back up that I tell it to.
When I type it in the address bar that you mention (assuming that you mean where you type in a web address to go onlie with), that it takes me to links to click on to. Is there another address bar I can type into besides this one that I don't know about?
I was just wondering if anyone is going to answer my questions or have forgotten about me or what I need to do to get them answered. Thanks again for all of your help!
When i said address bar, yes i meant the one that you could type in an address. You should see "c:\documents and settings\...." in the address bar. When you are at the folder looking for history and you dont see it, add it to the end of the address at the top.
Thanks for the wonderful answer on the Address Book as it was most helpful!!!
I'm still having problems finding the history folder though. I see Application Data, Apps, and Temp Folder inside the Local Settings Folder. This is where I go into the C: Drive part of My Computer by double clicking on things to get there.
I did type in: c:\documents and settings\[username]\Local Settings\History in the address bar like you said to do and it took me right there!!!
This other way listed above for some reason or another will not show me that. Do you happen to know why?
This is what the problem for me was by not typing my name in, in place of the user name too.
