If I have a password page that opens in the same window it's OK. If there is a new window it won't open one also my Outlook Express won't download my e-mail and then proceeds to freeze up my system. Other than that she is running fine.
Try using Firefox: http://www.getfirefox.com and see if that works, if it does, then it is an issue with Internet Explorer. I would suggest running through the steps outlined here: http://computeradvice.mikebinns.net/ to clean up the computer and possibly fix the issue with Internet Explorer, but Firefox, in my opinion, is a better browser and much less vulnerable to the issues you are experiencing.
Go to: http://hijackthis.de/ and click the direct download in the top right. Install the program and it will scan your computer to see what is hijacking your internet connection, and will allow you to remove anything that is dangerous.
A page that takes a password to get to - bank on line - pharmacy on line etc. a page that opens a new window. It gives me a prompt that says Internet Explorer cannot display page - I can access it with a different computer. For example: I click on bank on line expecting to get a new page asking for my acc't # & password and I get the Cannot display.
It appears as though I have a connectivity problem - I ran a diagnosis on the page I can't bring up. It said " Could not make an HTTP connection " How do I remedy this ?
I am using IE. Pages for my credit union, on-line pharmacy, and verizon wireless account which have a new window when I click to log in. They will not bring up the page - I get the " IE cannot display the webpage " On my credit union page the internet address comes up for a second then it quickly changes to the " cannot display " message as though it were redirected.
I got a new cable modem a couple weeks ago and I am suspecting that, but it seems to work fine otherwise.
Also my Outlook Express will not download my e-mail from the server.
Mike,
I downloaded foxfire and got a box that said there was a problem loading page - unable to connect - check computer firewall to see if Foxfire was permitted to access the web. What should I do ?
The hijack site indicated no problems. I continue to be unable to log on to any secure page i.e. , bank on line, pharmacy on line, my verizon wireless account etc. also outlook express refuses to download my e-mail.
When I click to a secure log in page I continue to get the page that says Internet Explorer cannot show page = it indicates that I may not be connected to interner ( I am ) the site may be experiencing problems ( it's not ) or their may be a misspelling ( not )
In internet explorer, click tools->Internet options. click the Advanced tab, then click the reset button at the bottom. After this, restart the browser. This assumes you have IE7.
